Hi, I’m Basia - a

I am many things, but above all, I am a human with deep curiosity and empathy for other humans.  I care about people and enjoy researching, ideating and desiging  accessible, user-friendly, and sustainable solutions, products and services that improve the lives of those who use them.

I am a self-taught designer, and hold a B.A. in International Law, African History and Gender Studies, as well as a MSc in Global Health Research.  Though multi-faceted with varied interests, I am particularily passionate about increasing accessibility to healthcare through  product and service design.

My research and design praxis is guided by an ethos of inclusivity and accesibility, grounded in participatory frameworks and human-centered design principles. I am visual storyteller that thrives in translating evidence-based research to understand human behavior and create practical solutions that meet the needs of people and communities.

Over the last 4 years,  I have worked on a number of projects with academic institutions, businesses, and entrepreneurs across the health, culture, business, and product design sectors. My skill set spans user research, design strategy, service design, usability testing, prototyping, workshop facilitation and research dissemination through presentation and article publishing. I have experience collaborating, co-creating and designing research agendas, ideating solutions and prototyping service and product designs with a wide array of stakeholders, including governments, NGO’s and private sector, as well as working with vulnerable and marginalized populations.

Originally from Senegal and the U.S., I have lived and worked across Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, Nepal, France, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Zambia, the U.S., and now the Netherlands, where I am currently based in Amsterdam.

My other passions and hobbies include analog photography, yoga and collecting herbal teas and natural medicines from my travels across the world. Oh, and music.  Always. Listening. To . Music!

Research & Design Praxis

Like with any skill or passion, I am constantly in the process of refining, ideating and expanding my R&D toolkit.

However, as visual person drawn to motion and movement, I like to think of my approach to research and design  as a logorythmic spiral that embodies an iterative process of expansion, reaching new insights and understandings of a problem, process or context from different points at various stages of the research and design process.
